3 Useful Job Search Tools You Didn't Know Existed

Being laid off isn’t something you planned for, so it can be difficult to know what resources are available. That’s why I rounded up a few job search tools that are super helpful and easy to use to help you get started.

Whether you've been laid off or have decided to make a career change yourself, these tools will be helpful to you. By the end of this post, you'll be more familiar with three tools to support you during this time. So let's get started.

3 Valuable Resources For When You’ve Been Laid Off

Jobscan

First, there are some excellent resume-building tools out there. Jobscan is one that I see used most often.

Jobscan is an AI-powered resume-building tool that will optimize your resume for any job highlighting the key experience and skills recruiters need to see.

It's as simple as 123. First, upload your resume to the website. Next, you add the job that you are looking at applying for. After that, you view the results. They provide you with a percentage for which your resume is a match for the job and recommendations for optimizing your resume to increase your odds of getting an interview.

LinkedIn

The second job search tool is Linkedin. We typically think of LinkedIn as a tool for networking, and it is that…but it’s also so much more!

LinkedIn can be used for various things, such as networking, searching for available jobs, and upskilling with LinkedIn courses.

Industry Job Boards & Newsletters

The third tool to help you in your job search is industry job boards and newsletters. This tool is one you'll need to get super specific with based on your career goals.

After you've clarified if you're changing roles or want to stay in the same position, start by searching your LinkedIn. Use items such as the name of your industry and your location. After LinkedIn, you can search Google, Facebook and more. Undoubtedly there are going to be groups specific to your industry out there that you can join.

Now once you find a few to join, be sure to get active, and what I mean by getting active is you need to attend their events. You need to interact with conversations within the group. You need to develop relationships with the group and within the group so you can continue to learn and grow and so that people will recognize you in the space.

Those are the three tools to arm yourself with when you embark on a career change journey. Lastly, do you know what is super helpful in navigating this time?
